Black Forest Germany Map

A Black Forest Germany Map of two can be found down at the bottom of the page.

The Black Forest is wooded mountainous area, in southwestern Germany, in the region of Baden-W├╝rttemberg. The Rhine Valley lies to the west and to the south. The area has a land mass of 12,000 square km, or 4,600 square miles, stretching 200 km or 120 miles in length, and being approximately 60 km or 37 miles in width.

The area is referred to as the Black Forest because of the dense presence of conifers that block the sun out of the forest for the most part, creating an eery dark effect. The Romans were the first to give it its name, calling it Silva Nigra which means "Black Forest" in Latin.
