A lot of people hear the name "The Hamptons" and wonder exactly what the name is referring to in its plural form. Is it a range of mountains? A series of lakes? A group of towns? In actuality it refers to a collection of hamlets and villages situated in the eastern part of Long Island, New York. All of these villages and hamlets technically lie within the incorporated towns of Southampton and East Hampton.
